Physician services are provided for each resident to manage the resident’s overall condition and program of care which includes medication and treatment management and review of and response to consultant recommendations. Additionally, a physician assistant, also known as physician extender, or a nurse practitioner may help manage a resident’s medical care under the direction of a supervising physician.
Each facility has a medical director who is responsible for the coordination of medical care in the facility. The medical director helps the facility obtain and maintain timely and appropriate medical care that supports the health care needs of the residents and is consistent with current standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
